1. This basket class is meant to be a continuation of the beginner’s class. The students will learn two additional new stitches, how to change color treads, hide knots, and a twist wrapped rim. The student will also learn how to add embellishments to the finished basket. The basket is started with a locally handmade ceramic base. Florida long leaf, glycerin-treaded, pine needles are used to coil, or stitch together, the basket with waxed thread. Seagrass and a wood button are added to finished basket for embellishment. There will be several different patterns and colors of bases, with two contrasting color threads available to choose from. This class will also be broken into two 4-hour parts so that you will have time to catch up between classes if needed. Previous coiling experience is required.
Patty Feathers came to Florida from Kentucky 11 years ago and has been teaching basketry for 25 years, travelling throughout most of the eastern states and teaching at state workshops. Since moving to Florida, she stays close to home and enjoys teaching coiling with pine needles.
